Well known veteran actress Sudha Shivpuri was a familiar face in Indian television industry. Her portrayal in 2000 as ‘Baa’ in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’made her won TV awards including the Best Dadi in Star Parivaar Awards and many more. A theatre enthusiast, Sudha was married actor Om Shivpuri with whom she started a theatre company, Dishantar. Acting was her passion and not just a source of livelihood. She worked for decades and was looking to work more in famous soap operas when her life was cut short due to age old related diseases. Fondly known as ‘Baa’ she will be missed by lot many audiences.
‘Baa’ of Indian television industry, Sudha Shivpuri breathed her last on 20 May 2015. Her co-stars descended to pay their condolences and remembered her association with them. For many it was no less than a shock as she was recovering from prolonged illness. The sweet loving lady lived the best of her life and left indelible imprints in the history of Indian Soap Operas.
Personal Life
Born on 14 July 1937 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh Sudha Shivpuri was a character actor of repute. She acted in numerous plays and television serials winning hearts of audiences. In 1968 she married Om Shivpuri who himself was known for playing many roles in Bollywood movies of late 70'sand 80's. Sudha Shivpuri has a daughter, Ritu who is also an Hindi film actor and has a son Vineet. Not well since a heart attack in 2014 she passed away on 20 May 2015 in Mumbai.
Professional Career
Sudha Shivpuri saw many ups and downs during her four decade’s long career. She started quite early as had to support her family after the sudden death of her father. To support her mother who was also quite ill she took up work after leaving her primary education. A theatre enthusiast, Sudha married actor Om Shivpuri in 1968. For sometime both worked together and formed in Delhi theatre and formed their own theatre company, Dishantar. She acted in various famous plays produced by the company, including Aadhe Adhurey, Tughlaq, and Vijay Tendulkar's Khamosh! Adalat Jari Hai, all directed by her husband Om Shivpuri. After working long in Delhi she along with her husband in 1974, shifted to Mumbai. "Swami" directed by Basu Chatterjee in 1977 marked her acting debut in Bollywood. In years to come she acted in various films like Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Hamari Bahu Alka, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Sun Meri Laila, Burning Train, Vidhaata and Maya Memsaab (1993).
After working in films for long she shifted to television. Her grabbed memorable roles in some of the leading serials like Aa Bail Mujhe Maar and Rajni (1985), in which she played Priya Tendulkar's mother-in-law. After performing various character roles in TV serials like Missing, Rishtey, Sarhadein and Bandhan she went to grab the role of 'Baa' in 2000. Her role as 'Baa, in Ekta Kapoor's "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi" won her several TV awards including the Best Dadi in Star Parivaar Awards . She became an accepted and mst admored character in senior roles. Her performances in ‘Kasamh Se’, ‘Santoshi Maa’ and ‘Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil’ were equally appreciated.

Illness and Death
Sudha Shivpuri who was unwell for quite some time died from multiple organ failure on 20 May 2015 in Mumbai.
